FC Barcelona President Calls Real Madrid An ‘Aberration’ And Demands Sanctions

Following

FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta called the conduct of bitter rivals Real Madrid an "aberration" during an interview with Mundo Deportivo.

At a gala held by the same newspaper, Laporta was previously vocal about footballing competition in Spain being "adulterated".

Reminded of this and his heated state, Laporta said: "And I am still angry and indignant because what Real Madrid TV does is a shame."

"I believe that the football regulators should intervene here because it is influencing, [and] trying to influence the referees every week, every now and then."

Asked whether he understood why the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) didn't take action, Laporta answered: "It has already been spoken about. They must be studying it. Imagine if we were like this everyday, they would have already criminalized and sanctioned us.

"I think that of course [Madrid] deserves an exemplary sanction. I do not agree at all with how Real Madrid TV is acting on this issue because it can also adulterate the competition."

Laporta and his Real Madrid counterpart Florentino Perez have appeared to be in cahoots because of their joint backing for a thus far failed breakaway competition, the Super League.

According to Laporta, however, "there is no good relationship with Madrid" as things stand.

"[This is] because [Madrid] has appeared in the 'Caso Negreira' and what it is doing is an aberration.

"[Madrid] has asked that the case be extended when there is nothing and they will find nothing because there is nothing.

"Our version is what it is and the contradictory versions or the versions that have been released have not been able to be proven in any way, because they do not exist. Because here what there was was referee technical advice with reports and videos provided as evidence.

"And there they appear [as an accusor] and what they want is to keep this alive so they can say what they in some way are preaching. That it is Barca who tries to influence the referees when that is what they are doing. And it is that double standards that they do which I do not find correct," Laporta concluded.
