Motorcyclist dies after crash in downtown Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A motorcyclist has been pronounced dead after Monday’s crash in downtown Salt Lake City, according to Salt Lake City Police.

The investigation started at around 5:30 p.m. on March 18. SLCPD received multiple calls about a crash near 350 South 200 East.

A Mazda CX5 collided with the motorcycle on 200 East, police said, though detectives are working to conduct a full crash reconstruction.

The motorcyclist, identified as Chandler Anderson, 28, was critically injured in the crash. Police released the news Thursday that Anderson died as a result of his injuries.

Anderson “did not appear to be wearing a helmet,” police said.

The driver of the Mazda, a 61-year-old woman, reportedly stayed on scene after the crash and cooperated with police. Officers closed 200 East in both directions between 300 South and 400 South for several hours following the crash.

“Due to the injury severity, the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene,” the release states.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death.

This crash marks the third traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City for 2024.

This investigation is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
