Dallas Boggs (born Othello Anderson Boggs) died unexpectedly on March 5, 2024 in Eugene, Oregon while at his beloved workplace, Brenner’s Furniture at age 57.

Dallas is survived by his mother, Janice Costello Barber; daughter, Jada Marie Boggs; sisters, Paula Elaine Boggs and Lynette Marlin Boggs-Perez; brothers, Nathaniel Cornell Boggs and Anthony Dwight Barber; step-sisters Terry Tellis and Christy Brown; step-brother, Dennis Barber; mother-in-law, Beverly Wheeler; sister-in-laws, Melissa Boggs, Randee Fox, Diana Mortenson, Mary Anne Gordon, and Teri Boggs; brother-in-laws, Kyle Gordon, Terry Mortenson, Eli Perez, Henry Tellis, Sr. and Richard Wheeler; nieces, Emily Boggs, Kaitlyn Boggs, Josephine Gordon, Rachel McDonald, and Katrina Wheeler; nephews, Tyler Anderson, Adam McDonald, Steven Wheeler, William Wheeler, and Wyatt Wheeler; great niece Milly Rotkosky and great nephew Miles Rotkosky and a host of many more nieces and nephews. Dallas is also survived by his sweetheart, Sandy Solmiren.

Dallas was born in Petersburg, Virginia to Janice Costello Barber and Nathaniel Boggs, Jr. (deceased 1997). He was also the step-son of Marlin Barber (deceased 2015) who was like a father to him for almost 40 years. He married Julie Boggs in 1992 (deceased 2005) and together they had a daughter, Jada Marie Boggs, currently a Cornell University Animal Science Major in her Junior year.

Moving to Europe at age six, Dallas graduated from Mannheim American High School, in Germany, 1984. He attended Virginia State where he majored in Public Administration University and was a member of the Beta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He then transferred to the University of Oregon. Dallas soon started working at Brenner’s Furniture & Mattress rising from delivery driver to general manager then worked as general manager for Palm Harbor Homes before returning to Brenner’s as co-owner and then talented sales associate.

Dallas was also a dedicated leader volunteering in the Eugene community as a Eugene Police Commissioner since July, 2020. He loved his community and his police department.

He was chair for the past two and a half years and his unwavering dedication leaves an indelible mark on the work we do.”

In 2019, Dallas became an ambassador for Men Wear Pink of Lane County and has been a dedicated supporter ever since. Through his efforts, he raised over $75,000 for breast cancer patients, research and the American Cancer Society's breast cancer services. Dallas was honored in 2023 as the Men Wear Pink Trailblazer of the Year.

Dallas had a ‘larger than life’ presence. With his warm and outgoing personality, giving nature, fun-loving personality, giant heart, and keen sense of humor, he constantly drew in a diverse family of people from all walks of life and from all over the world. As a proactive community member, including always championing others through Black Professionals Eugene/Springfield and Sponsors Inc. Dallas made a difference in all that he did. This devoted family member, loyal friend, and passionate Ducks fan will be missed by many.

His daughter, Jada remembers him as a proud, kind, gentle, patient, and loving father who always encouraged her to pursue her dreams. She will miss him terribly.

Memorial Services - All are welcome and invited to attend: Viewing - Thursday, March 28th from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. Please join us the day before the memorial service for a gathering of Dallas’ family and friends to offer condolences and pay respects at Musgroves Family Mortuary (225 S Danebo Ave, Eugene, OR)

Celebration of Life Memorial Service - Friday, March 29th from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. McDonald Theater (1010 Willamette St, Eugene, OR). Doors will open at 10:30 am, please arrive early to settle in.

Dallas’ family would like to extend special gratitude to David Fendrich, owner of Brenner’s Furniture, for always being supportive of Dallas, until the end.
