OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WKRG) — An inmate missing for nearly five months is recaptured in Jackson County, Mississippi. The Alabama Department of Corrections said 39-year-old Ricky Lavon Lay was captured just across the state line in Jackson County, Mississippi.

ALDOC officials said Lay escaped a work release program in Bayou La Batre in late October. He was serving a 16-year sentence for 3rd-degree burglary out of Fayette County, Alabama. The news release says he was recaptured by Ocean Springs Police Thursday morning. There’s no information about how Lay was able to stay on the lam for nearly half a year or when he’ll go back to Alabama.
