Yes, the viral McDonald’s ‘Dinner Box’ is a real thing: Here’s how to find it

(NEXSTAR) – Ronald McDonald, you sneaky son of a gun.

A largely unadvertised meal from McDonald’s — the “Mickey D’s Dinner Box” — has sent TikTok into a tizzy after a viral video revealed the existence of the item to social-media users earlier this month. There’s just one catch: The contents and price of the “boxes” may vary by location, according to McDonald’s — if they’re available at all.

A TikTok user in Texas who goes by the name @xolovelei brought the item to the platform’s attention last week after documenting her own successful attempt to purchase the box on March 12.

In the video, which has over 12 million views, @xolovelei can be seen ordering the meal bundle from a McDonald’s drive-thru and later showcasing its contents in her kitchen. Her dinner box contained two cheeseburgers, two Big Macs, four small orders of fries and a 10-piece order of Chicken McNuggets.

The video also included a screenshot of her receipt, which appeared to confirm she was only charged $12.19 for the entire thing.

“$12 gets you a dinner box,” she told viewers. “It’s not on the menu so you’re probably just gonna have to ask.”

Many of the commenters seemed in disbelief over the bundle’s mere existence, let alone the price. In response, @xolovelei posted a follow-up video to defend her claims, though she didn’t really need to: McDonald’s does indeed offer the boxes.

The bundle, however, is only available at locations where franchisees’ opt to offer the promotion. The items inside the box, and the prices, are also determined by the franchisees who operate the restaurants, according to McDonald’s.

Plenty of TikTok viewers have since claimed they found the same Mickey D’s Dinner Boxes at their local restaurants, albeit with varying (and often higher) prices. But others had trouble finding the promotion at their McDonald’s locations, if they found it at all.

“I called McDonald’s … the manager didn’t know what I was talking about,” one viewer wrote.

As noted on TikTok, any available Mickey D’s Dinner Box deals can often found in the McDonald’s app, either under the local restaurant’s “Sharables” tab or, as @xolovelei suggested, typing “Dinner Box” into the search bar.

“That was our first time ordering the box but that will definitely be the route we take when ordering at McDonald’s,” she told Nexstar, adding that she was happy to spread news of the dinner bundle on TikTok.

“I know personally I am always trying to budget for my family of five as a stay-at-home mom, and I figure why not pass the deal along and share it with others?”
