N.J. mumps cases: Where the 2024 cases were reported

The state Health Department said Friday that the three of the 11 cases of mumps reported in New Jersey so far this year are individual cases and not part of a cluster. Earlier this week, it said there were eight suspected cases of mumps in “one family cluster” in Hunterdon County related to international travel.

The three other suspected cases were in three different counties. One was in Hudson County and was reported in January, related to international travel. A second case in Ocean County was also reported in January, but it did not say if it was also related to travel. And in February, one case was reported in Somerset County, also related to international travel.

The Health Department also updated its preliminary data from 2023. It initially said there were 16 cases in the state. But on Friday, it said the data was updated to reflect only 13 cases. Of those, there were:
