March Madness predictions took a wild ride with several upsets on Friday. With Saturday’s game behind us, we will take a look ahead at Sunday’s contests. Also, it has been the tournament of the Dukes so far (Duquesne, JMU, and Duke all advanced). A little more carnage is likely on Saturday and Sunday. With Auburn falling, could North Carolina and other favorites be next?

Thursday and Friday provided several upsets as James Madison and Grand Canyon pulled off the fabled 12-5 upsets. The excitement only amplified when 13th-seeded Yale upset 4th-seeded Auburn 78-76. Bruce Pearl and the Tigers never could pull away from the Bulldogs. 

Just like that, many March Madness predictions drifted away like smoke on the water. However, some games did go as expected. Connecticut routed Stetson, and Houston hammered Longwood by 40 points. Even Purdue took care of business and advanced easily to the second round. The Boilermakers did not last year. 

Marquette rebounded from a slow first half to beat the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the 14.5-point spread, too. Clemson rode the hot-shooting first half to an easy win over New Mexico. Colorado beat Florida in a game where both teams hit the century mark in points. 

Overs hit a few more times on Friday as the pace of some games was incredible. Now, games get extremely tense as spots in the Sweet 16 are on the line.

Sunday brings us eight games on the schedule, including a battle of the “Dukes” and a home game for Purdue in nearby Indianapolis. If you want some late Palm Sunday contests, the NCAA has you covered with four prime-time games, including Yale and San Diego State at 9:40 pm EDT.

Marquette is one of those teams that can play at a higher tempo if needed. They can turn on the intensity and tire teams out. That will be the concern with the Buffaloes. Colorado will not shoot 63% from the field, either. Marquette may be around 50%, with the Buffaloes under that. Expect the Golden Eagles, with Kam Jones and Tyler Kolek, to pull away again late. 

Marquette punches their way to the Sweet 16.

No. 4 Duke vs. No. 12 James Madison Prediction, 5:15 (CBS)

ATS: Blue Devils -7.5 (-105) at FanDuel

One way or another, the Dukes are going to win on Sunday. It will be either the Dukes of James Madison or just Duke, as in the Duke Blue Devils. The Blue Devils did not play their best game on Friday, but their defense held Vermont to 47 points. Duke needs to play better.

The Dukes looked great against Wisconsin. An 11-point margin of victory felt more like 20 as James Madison felt like they were in control most of the way. People need to remember the Dukes won 31 games coming into the tournament. 

Duke has questions here. Can they slow down Terrence Edwards? Do the Blue Devils get Kyle Filipowski involved offensively and shoot better than 42%? James Madison holds teams to 29% percent shooting from three. Is an upset possible?

No. 4 Alabama vs. No. 12 Grand CanyonPrediction, 7:10 (TBS)

Primetime entertainment will be in abundance as Alabama faces Grand Canyon. March Madness predictions immediately noted an Over/Under approaching 170. Grand Canyon easily can average 80 points a game. Even Saint Mary’s had trouble keeping them at 75. 

Can anyone slow down Alabama? The Crimson Tide scored 109 points versus Charleston. The one thing Alabama does is give away a lot of free points. Teams average 25 free-throw attempts a game. The Antelopes average 25.5, by the way. Alabama draws and commits around 20 fouls a contest.  

The Antelopes showed their offensive drive with 47 second-half points on Friday. Alabama. Mark Sears and Rayshon Harrison love pushing pace for their respective teams. This game has fun written all over it.

No. 1 Connecticut vs. No. 9 Northwestern Prediction, 7:45 (TruTV)

Someone got wise to Connecticut. Dan Hurley was unhappy at Halftime on Friday, being up more than 30 points against Stetson. The coach demands perfection, and his players execute awfully close to the loftiest of levels in the New York City area.

How can Northwestern slow down the Huskies' balanced and healthy attack? Give Chris Collins and his Wildcats credit. They played a great overtime against Florida Atlantic. However, Donovan Clingan and company will not turn over numerous opportunities as the Owls did. Connecticut is relentless! 

Once Connecticut gets a lead, that is typically it. Boo Buie can keep this game close for Northwestern, but the Huskies have too many weapons. Tristen Newton and Cam Spencer are an incredible guard duo, and the Wildcats are in deep trouble.

March Madness predictions finish with two teams that played each other during the season. Houston defeated Texas A&M a week before Christmas 70-66 at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. It was more or less a home game for the Cougars. The Aggies saw Wade Taylor go off for 34 points and almost single-handedly led them to an upset.

Houston appeared to regain some of their defensive swagger as they held Longwood to 46 points on Friday. However, Taylor and Tyrece Radford could provide a challenge. They will get their points. Can the Cougars score around 80 points this time?

Texas A&M turned up the offense to 11 on the dial Friday. That will open up opportunities for LJ Cryer, Jamal Sheed, and the Guards. Kelvin Sampson was not happy after that December 18th game. Expect a different Houston on Sunday night.
