Interstate 85 northbound between exits 19 and 21 in Gastonia is seeing significant delays Wednesday afternoon after a tractor trailer’s saddle tank ruptured.

The tractor trailer hit debris in the road around noon, which caused a hole in the tank and a leak of about 100 gallons of diesel fuel on to the roadway. There were no injuries due to the accident.

According to the Department of Transportation, the right lane is closed and expected to reopen around 3:30 p.m.

The Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services assisted the Gastonia Fire Department on scene. An environmental cleanup company is conducting cleanup, which will result in the closure of the right lane for the next several hours, according to a press release from Gaston County.
