Almost 70% of Russians surveyed see situation in country on right track, poll shows

Some 60% of Russians said that they are satisfied with their lives, and about 23% of survey participants said that they were neutral

MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. The percentage of Russians surveyed who believe the situation in the country is good has reached an annual maximum, with 69% expressing such a view in February, as compared to two years ago when only every second person expressed such optimism (53% in 2022), the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) said in reporting the results of a recent poll.

The survey was conducted on February 22 among 1,600 adult Russians.

"Almost 70% of Russians surveyed assess the situation in the country as good; this is the annual maximum (February 2023: 66%; February 2022: 53%). As many as 26% of our fellow citizens assess the situation in the country as bad," the report says. More than half of all respondents - 58% - agreed that the country is going in the right direction, while "16% do not support this opinion (minus 10 percentage points [p.p.] to February 2022)," VCIOM specified.

Some 60% of Russians said that they are satisfied with their lives. About 23% of survey participants said that they were neutral ("partly satisfied, partly not") on this issue. As many as 16% are not satisfied with their lives, while 24% expressed such dissatisfaction in January 2022.

"In the current measurement, the life satisfaction index amounted to 67 p. out of the maximum 100, which makes this February the most favorable month in the entire period of observation in terms of life satisfaction," the pollsters said.

One of the key factors of life satisfaction is financial well-being; 85% of the respondents assess it as good or very good. "Most of all young people are satisfied with their lives: in February, this was stated by 84% of Russians under 24, the calculated index amounted to a record 89 p. out of 100 possible," the report says.
