Another Kansas State basketball guard plans to transfer after two years with Wildcats

Another Kansas State basketball player is heading to the transfer portal.

Dorian Finister, a 6-foot-4 redshirt freshman who averaged 2.8 points and 2.3 rebounds for the Wildcats this season, plans to leave Manhattan and play elsewhere next year.

He first shared his transfer plans with 247Sports.

His departure means the Wildcats have lost guards to the transfer portal on consecutive days. Cam Carter announced his transfer plans on Thursday after he averaged 14.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists as junior starter.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Finister is on the way out. The New Orleans native was unable to find a consistent role with the Wildcats and his minutes were steadily on the decline. Head coach Jerome Tang chose not to play Finister at all in 15 games this season.

He scored a season-high six points in three different games.

Finister also played sparingly a year ago for the Wildcats, but the NCAA granted him a redshirt waiver after the season. For that reason, he has three years of college eligibility remaining.

More K-State basketball transfers could be on the way.

Following a season-ending loss against Iowa in the NIT, Tang was asked if every young player on the roster had an open invitation to return to the team. He politely declined to answer, saying that was a topic he would need to discuss with his coaching staff.

The Wildcats will no doubt look to upgrade their talent level after only winning 19 games this season.

The departures of Carter and Finister leave K-State with at least four available scholarships to use for the future.
