Fire closes lanes of busy Cumberland County road just before rush hour

UPDATE: Busy Cumberland County road still closed after fire

A brush fire, started by a tree that fell into a utility pole, will close a busy Cumberland County road for multiple hours into Wednesday evening, according to fire officials at the scene.

The initial call for the brush fire, which started along Cumberland Boulevard — near the Camp Hill Bypass and Siebert Park — came in around 2:45 p.m. and started after a downed tree hit power lines and impacted the utility pole.

Parts of central Pa., including Cumberland County, are under a wind advisory Wednesday with gusts reaching over 45 miles per hour.

Crews were battling the fire from both sides of the brush due to concerns for a nearby home on North 25th Street.

The Camp Hill Fire Department responded to the scene and then requested help from local fire departments including crews from New Cumberland, West Shore, Lower Allen Township, and Upper Allen Township.

Eastbound traffic on Cumberland Boulevard was flowing again around 4:20 p.m. and fire officials confirmed to PennLive that the fire was extinguished by 4:45 p.m.

The westbound lanes of Cumberland Boulevard will remain closed for multiple hours while crews clear parts of the tree in the roadway. A downed wire was also seen over the Cumberland Boulevard intersection with North 25th Street.

Nobody was injured as a result of the fire.
