OAKLAND — A 34-year-old man, who apparently was a bystander and not the intended target, was wounded at least twice in a Fruitvale district shootout Thursday night, authorities said.

The man was in stable condition Friday.

The shooting happened about 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the 1900 block of Fruitvale Avenue, near Foothill Boulevard.

Police said the victim was standing outside when two other men got into a dispute that ended in a shootout. It was not immediately known if the victim knew the other men.

The 34-year-old man was hit in the back and foot, authorities said. No one else was injured.

Both gunmen fled before police arrived. What prompted the shooting was under investigation.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooters. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
