N.C. Highway Patrol: Pedestrian struck, killed on U.S. 64 East in Hendersonville
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on March 13 on U.S. 64 East in Hendersonville, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Trooper Eric Noblett with the N.C. Highway Patrol's Hendersonville office told the Times-News on March 14 the pedestrian was identified as John William Spinx III, 32, of Hendersonville. Noblett said the call came in at 10:21 p.m. on March 13, and it was near the intersection of Cornwalls Lane and U.S. 64 East.
Noblett said no charges will be filed against the driver and noted that the pedestrian did have on dark clothing late at night while walking in the middle of the roadway.

"He was not very visible and it was dark in the area," he said. "He was in the left lane, the passing lane, when he got struck."
This marks the fourth pedestrian death in Henderson County since September 2023 and the second pedestrian death of the year on U.S. 64 in Hendersonville.
On Feb. 24, a male pedestrian was struck and killed on the east side of the bridge going over Interstate 26. Just under four months before that accident, another pedestrian, Flat Rock's Dustin Grant Byrnside, 44, was struck and killed on Oct. 30 on Spartanburg Highway in Hendersonville.
A month before Byrnside's death, Doris "Ann" Ponder, 72, was struck and killed while she was attempting to cross U.S. 64, just about a mile near North Henderson High School.
