Evansville police said one person died in a single-vehicle wreck on Kratzville Road on Thursday afternoon.

According to a news release from the department, a vehicle left the road in the 6600 block of Kratzville Road and struck a mailbox and a brick embankment before overturning. The wreck was reported at 3:45 p.m.

The driver, the lone occupant in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified Friday by the Vanderburgh County Coroner's Office as Adam Cooper, 47, of Evansville.

The release noted that officers initially thought that the Kratzville Road wreck was related to a hit-and-run incident near the intersection of Kratzville Road and Wimberg Avenue because of "the description of the suspect's vehicle being similar to the vehicle involved in the second crash."

"After further investigation, it was determined the incidents were not related," the release said.

The suspect in the hit-and-run collision was not located, police said.
