The new Copilot Pro subscription that Microsoft launched in January is getting better for consumers who don’t pay for a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription. Starting today, a Copilot Pro subscription now provides access to the AI assistant within the free Microsoft 365 web apps.

“While a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription is still required to unlock Copilot in the desktop apps for PC and Mac, we’re excited to bring Copilot to Word, Outlook, and more free web apps to additional Pro subscribers,” said Divya Kumar, General Manager, Search and AI Marketing. “We’ll extend this benefit to our free mobile apps as well, including the Microsoft 365 app and Outlook for iOS and Android, in the coming months.“

A Microsoft Copilot Pro subscription ($20/month) provides priority access to OpenAI’s GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo models, and it also unlocks Copilot features in the desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Copilot Pro users can also build their own Copilot GPTs using the web-based GPT builder tool (Paul recently tried that with a custom Copilot that uses information from thurrott.com, to mixed results). Additionally, Microsoft Designer, the company’s AI-powered image generator is also getting more advanced features with a Copilot Pro subscription.

Today, the company is also expanding the availability of its Copilot Pro subscription to all countries and regions where Copilot is already available. That’s 222 countries/regions in total, and Microsoft is also offering a one-month Copilot Pro free trial via its Copilot app for iOS and Android.

Lastly, Microsoft is expanding the availability of its Copilot for Microsoft 365 commercial subscription, which is now available for organizations of all sizes. “Customers that have Microsoft 365 F3 and F1, Office 365 E1, Business Basic, and more will be eligible to purchase Copilot for Microsoft 365 in the coming weeks,” Kumar said today. “That’s in addition to previously announced availability on Microsoft 365 E3 and E5, Office 365 E3 and E5, Business Standard, and Business Premium plans.”
