Only, little did she know her other half had other ideas...

Taking to Mumsnet, she explained that while the name "Georgina" was a "top contender," they'd made a joint decision that "Emmeline" was the chosen one.

She continued: "My husband had not expressed how much he loved the name Georgina - he was very much 'I like all the names on the shortlist. You can choose.' Which I did. Emmeline."

The infuriated woman went on to explain that after a "difficult" labour and 10-day stay in hospital, she opened cards from their loved ones only to find everyone congratulating them on the birth of "Georgina."

Knowing that they hadn't shared any names with friends and family and that they couldn't have taken a "wild guess," she decided to confront her husband.

She recalled: "He looked a bit sheepish and said ‘I was going to tell you. I just don’t think I can imagine calling her Emmeline. Georgina is a better fit.’ Oh and ‘Everyone agrees’."

The angry mum went on to say that he apologised and tried to blame it on the fact that he caved under the pressure of everyone asking him for the baby's name and "had to make a decision."

She continued: "He says he can understand why I am upset but as we both like Georgina, why can’t we use it. Seeing as she doesn’t ‘feel like an Emmeline.’"

To make matters even worse, she goes on to note how her mother-in-law had already ordered a personalised baby blanket with the name "Georgina."

She raged: "If this had been discussed, then sure, we both have to feel comfortable with the end name, but that decision can't be with one parent alone, behind the other one's back."

I gave my son a unique name - trolls call it 'absolutely ridiculous' & say he'll be bullied for it but I don't care

The post garnered quite the reaction online, with many admitting they too would be left reeling.

"I'd register the birth myself asap and put out a group chat message correcting everyone and apologising for the confusion," wrote one.

A second penned: "Omg I’d be fuming. Well you’re going to have to come up with a new name and get him to text everyone he’s told and apologise that HE got the name wrong."

A third commented: "Oh goodness, I would be fuming!

"He shouldn't have changed the agreed name without discussing with you first!! You should both get a say and come to an agreement.

"Obviously you need to now decide which name you want to give your daughter- if Emmeline is what is decided, he needs to ring round everyone he told and explain the mistake."
