DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver metro area has some of the lowest-rated grocery stores in the nation, according to a report by the website Solitaired.

The report looked at Google reviews in the 100 largest U.S. cities, which includes several Colorado cities such as Denver and Aurora. The review pages for the first 30 grocery store results for each city were then compiled.

Colorado-based King Soopers was also rated the worst grocery store chain, with an average rating of 3.9 stars on Google. Safeway also made an appearance on the top 10 worst chain list, with an average rating of 4 stars.

The worst-rated grocery stores

The Denver metro had four stores in the top 10 worst list, with three located in Aurora and one in Denver:

  1. Giant Eagle Supermarket – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (3.5 stars)
  2. Metro Thriftway – Kansas City, Missouri (3.5 stars)
  3. Walmart Supercenter – 14000 block of East Exposition Avenue in Aurora (3.6 stars)
  4. Walmart Supercenter – Cincinnati, Ohio (3.6 stars)
  5. Safeway – 750 block of East 20th Avenue in Denver (3.6 stars)

  9. Walmart Supercenter – Wichita, Kansas (3.7 stars)
  10. Walmart Supercenter – Norfolk, Virginia (3.7 stars)

A King Soopers store in the 1300 block of Speer Boulevard was rated the No. 16 worst store, with a 3.7-star rating on Google.

Lines a particular issue

Solitaired also looked at some specific criticism points people might have for grocery stores — such as customer service and lines — to see which places were rated the worst.

For this, the report looked at reviews of three stars or less and counted the frequency of certain keywords.

When it came to lines, three stores in Colorado had some of the highest frequency of complaints.

All three of these were located in Aurora, and all were King Soopers stores, according to the report.
