College Baseball Top 25 Rankings

Tennessee remains No. 1 in the Baseball America College Baseball Top 25 Rankings after another SEC series win, its eighth straight.

The Volunteers won their first two games at Vanderbilt to claim the in-state rivalry series. This is Tennessee’s second straight week at No. 1.

Kentucky rises to No. 2, matching its highest ever ranking in the Top 25. It was last No. 2 in April 2012. Arkansas, North Carolina and Texas A&M round out the top five.

Two new teams join the Top 25, both from the Sun Belt Conference. Louisiana rejoins the Top 25 at No. 22 after one week out of the rankings. Southern Miss rounds out the rankings at No. 25. It was last ranked in March.

South Carolina and Troy dropped out of the Top 25 after losing series. 

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through May 12.

Tennessee took two of three games at rival Vanderbilt to secure its eighth-straight SEC series victory. The Volunteers on Friday used a five-run eighth inning to propel themselves to a series-opening win, while on Saturday Christian Moore drove in five runs—three of which came on a decisive three-run home run—to clinch the series. The Vols’ bullpen shined, as across 16 innings they allowed just four runs. Tennessee closes out the regular season this weekend with a tough series against South Carolina.

Kentucky earned a gritty series win at Florida, twice beating the Gators in extra innings. The Wildcats on Sunday matched the program record for SEC wins in a season, set in 2006. Now, they will try to match the 2006 team in an even more significant way, as they are aiming to win the program’s first conference title since then. Kentucky holds a one-game lead going into the season’s final week.

The Razorbacks got back on track this weekend with a key series win against Mississippi State in which they notched a pair of come-from-behind victories. On Friday, they scored three runs in the eighth inning—headlined by Hudson White’s game-winning, two-run single—before scoring nine unanswered runs on Sunday to take the series. White paced the offense this weekend with six RBIs, while in the series finale Peyton Holt hit the game-winning, two-run home run and Will McEntire (2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 K) and Gabe Gaeckle (2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K) combined to throw four scoreless innings. Arkansas is still alive in the SEC title race, but has its work cut out for it this weekend at Texas A&M.

The Tar Heels cruised to a perfect week that included a midweek win against Campbell and a sound sweep of Louisville in which they outscored the Cardinals by a comfortable 36-15 margin. Jason DeCaro on Friday turned in a solid start, but it was the bullpen this weekend that stole the show as across 12 innings it allowed just two runs. It was a well-rounded effort offensively, but Vance Honeycutt and Luke Stevenson led the way with five and eight RBIs, respectively. North Carolina will spend this week on the road with a tough midweek matchup at UNCW before a rivalry series at Duke.


5. Texas A&M

Texas A&M’s struggles continued into this weekend as it dropped its second series in as many weeks. Like last weekend, the Aggies’ bats were silenced and were held to under 10 hits in each of their three games. They were able to salvage the series with a shutout win on Sunday in which Shane Sdao struck out six across seven scoreless innings. It won’t be easy, but Texas A&M will look to get back on track this weekend at home—where it is 30-2—against Arkansas in an SEC West title showdown.



6. Georgia

The Bulldogs rolled to a sweep at South Carolina, extending their winning streak to eight games. Georgia scored 39 runs on the weekend and bashed 11 home runsthough only one of those was by Charlie Condon, who on Thursday set the 21st century single-season home run record with his 34th home run of the year. Georgia’s winning streak has seen it surge into third place in the SEC ahead of this week’s rivalry series against Florida.


7. Wake Forest

Wake stayed red-hot with a 4-0 week, highlighted by a sweep of Clemson, which came into the weekend tied for first place in the ACC. The Demon Deacons have won nine straight games and are 19-6 since the start of April. Righthander Chase Burns struck out 16 batters in seven innings on Friday and broke the program’s single-season strikeout record, as he’s now piled up 156 strikeouts in 82 innings. Wake faces another difficult test this weekend, as it travels down I-40 to take on NC State.


8. Oregon State

Oregon State’s offense exploded for 58 runs en route to a perfect week. In addition to a productive week from nearly every lineup regular, the Beavers also welcomed back spark plug centerfielder Micah McDowell back to the lineup. Aiden May spun six shutout innings in which he notched nine strikeouts to extend his scoreless inning streak to 22.1, while freshman Eric Segura on Sunday allowed just one run across five innings. Oregon State this weekend has a huge road series at No. 21 Arizona that will determine the regular season Pac-12 champion.


9. NC State

NC State won another big ACC series, taking down Virginia on the road. First baseman Garrett Pennington went 9-for-13 with three home runs and scored nine runs on the weekend, including four runs in Sunday’s finale. NC State is still firmly in the hosting race, but probably needs a series win this weekend against surging Wake Forest.


10. Clemson

After scoring four runs in the ninth inning in Tuesday’s win against Charlotte, Clemson was soundly swept at Wake Forest. Outside of Ethan Darden, no starter was able to make it out of the fifth inning. The Tigers’ bats also struggled mightily and on the weekend hit just .202. Outfielder Tristan Bissetta was the team’s lone bright spot, as he hit two home runs and accounted for five of the team’s 10 RBIs. Clemson will look to bounce back this weekend at home against Boston College.


11. Florida State

Following an 11-inning win Tuesday against Jacksonville, Florida State suffered an upset series loss at Pittsburgh. Jamie Arnold on Friday struck out 17—the most in a single-game by an FSU pitcher since 1987—but the Seminoles were shutout and held to just three hits. However, there were some positives to take away from the weekend. On top of their 15-4 run-rule win on Sunday, righthander Conner Whittaker made his first appearance since April 6 against Boston College. Florida State this weekend will look to end the regular season on a high note against Georgia Tech.


12. East Carolina

It was a week to forget for East Carolina, which—after a midweek loss to Duke—was swept by Tulane. The Pirates’ starting pitching struggled mightily, as across 11.1 total innings they combined to allow 12 earned runs. It is hard to take any positives away from this weekend for ECU other than the fact that it still sits atop the AAC standings, though only by a game. The Pirates have now lost five-straight and will look to right the ship this week at home against Campbell and Rice.


13. Duke

After a big midweek win at East Carolina, the Blue Devils dropped a pair of games in Atlanta for their second-straight ACC series loss. Ace Jonathan Santucci was a late scratch prior to his start Friday, and the pitching staff as a whole this weekend was unable to get its footing. Offensively, Alex Stone (10) and Logan Bravo (5) accounted for 15 of the team’s 27 total RBIs. Duke will look to end the regular season on a high note, though it won’t be easy as it takes on Charleston before a rivalry series against red-hot North Carolina.


14. Virginia

Virginia led in all three games this weekend, though it came away with just one win as its pitching—which has been the team’s Achilles heel all season—again struggled. The Cavaliers got two solid starts from Evan Blanco and Joe Savino who each allowed just one run, but the bullpen combined to allow 13 earned runs in 13.2 innings. Star freshman Henry Ford crushed his 16th home run—a new Virginia single-season freshman record—while Griff O’Ferrall, Bobby Whalen, Eric Becker and Jacob Ference drove in three runs apiece. The ‘Hoos conclude the regular season at home with a rivalry series against Virginia Tech.


15. Mississippi State

Mississippi State bounced back from a series-opening loss at Arkansas with a big win Saturday. However, it lost the series in gut-wrenching fashion in Sunday’s rubber game as it blew a 6-0 lead. In their two losses, the Bulldogs’ bullpen struggled mightily and allowed a total of 10 earned runs across just five innings. Ethan Pulliam paced the offense with four RBIs, while Hunter Hines and Dakota Jordan drove in three runs apiece. For as tough as this weekend was to swallow, Mississippi State has a chance to end the regular season on a high note as this week it hosts North Alabama and Missouri.


16. Oklahoma

Oklahoma swept Baylor to clinch the Big 12 title, its first conference championship since 1995 when the league was still the Big Eight. The Sooners’ offense exploded for 47 runs on the weekend, led by leadoff hitter John Spikerman, who went 9-for-14 with three doubles, two home runs and scored nine runs. Oklahoma has a tough week on the road, as it travels to Cincinnati for a game Tuesday at Xavier and its final Big 12 series against the Bearcats.


17. UC Irvine

UC Irvine bounced back from last weekend’s series loss with a perfect 4-0 week, headlined by a sound sweep of Long Beach State. It was a well-rounded effort this weekend on both sides of the baseball for the Anteaters, as all nine lineup regulars registered at least one RBI and each starting pitcher spun a quality start. UCI this week will square off with Loyola Marymount before a road series against a struggling Cal State Fullerton.

Their weekend was bookended by a pair of outstanding starts courtesy of Ryan Gallagher (8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 13 K) and Tyler Bremner (9 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 12 K)—both of whom struck out a new career-high. UCSB this weekend travels to Cal State Northridge, looking to maintain its two-game edge on UC Irvine in the conference standings in the penultimate regular-season weekend in Big West play.


19. Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State cruised to two wins against Texas Techit didn’t trail at the end of an inning in either gamebefore the series finale was canceled due to poor weather. The Cowboys blasted seven home runs in Friday’s rout and nine on the weekend, including two each from Carson Benge and Aidan Meola. Oklahoma State is in second place in the Big 12 and will look to maintain that positioning as it finishes the regular season at Houston.


20. Oregon

The Ducks on Friday took a tough loss at Washington before coming back to win the rivalry series on the road. Kevin Seitter (6.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 9 K) delivered a quality start in the finale and the bullpen threw 8.1 scoreless innings over the final two games to help lead Oregon to the series win. The Ducks return to PK Park to take on Washington State in their final Pac-12 series.


21. Arizona

Arizona went 3-1 against Pac-12 competition in a tough week on the road. After getting stymied on Friday by Utah ace Bryson Van Sickle, the Wildcats offense bounced back for 18 runs over the next two days, led by Andrew Cain, who homered in both wins. Arizona holds a 1.5 game lead over Oregon State in the Pac-12 standings going into this weekend’s showdown and needs just one win to capture its first conference title since 2021.


22. Louisiana

Louisiana returns to the Top 25 after missing last week. The Ragin’ Cajuns rolled to a 4-0 week, including a sweep on the road of Georgia Southern, and have clinched the Sun Belt Conference title, their first since 2016. Shortstop Kyle DeBarge led the lineup, going 7-for-13 with two doubles and two home runs in the series. Louisiana will conclude the regular season at home against South Alabama.


23. Indiana State

Indiana State won its series against Evansvilleits 18th straight Missouri Valley Conference series win. It also this weekend clinched the conference championship for the second straight season, marking the first time in program history that the Sycamores have won consecutive MVC titles. Indiana State this week hits the road and will aim to finish the regular season on a high note at Ball State and Valparaiso.


24. Texas

Texas won its series at UCFits fifth straight Big 12 series win. Closer Gage Boehm earned saves in both of the Longhorns’ wins and threw 4.2 scoreless innings on the weekend. Texas, which went 11-5 in true road games this season, returns home to Disch-Falk Field to conclude the regular season against Kansas.

Southern Miss returns to the rankings for the first time in two months following a road sweep of Arkansas State. The offense led the way in Jonesboro, exploding for 38 runs on 46 hits. Shortstop Ozzie Pratt went 10-for-15 and DH Slade Wilks went 7-for-14 with three home runs in the series. The Golden Eagles are now in second place in the Sun Belt standings going into the final weekend of the regular season against Texas State.
