Auditions for the spring stage performances of the musical “Cabaret” will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Alban Arts Academy in St. Albans.
Auditionees must prepare a short song, in any style and no more than 90 seconds in length, that showcases their range. Readings will be from the script. Auditionees should also wear comfortable clothes for movement and dance.
Due to “Cabaret”’s adult themes and language, actors 18 and older are preferred for roles. Teenagers older than 15 will be considered but must have parental permission.
Roles include:
Emcee: Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Club; tenor; man, woman or nonbinary. Agile mover, both comedic and terrifying. Any age. German accent.
Sally Bowles: Lead singer at the Kit Kat Club; soprano-mezzo. Comfortable with stage movement and dance. Age range: 20s to 30s. British accent.
Clifford (Cliff) Bradshaw: An American novelist and English teacher traveling to Berlin; tenor. Presented as a man exploring his sexuality. Comfortable with stage movement. Age range: 20s to mid 30s. American accent.
Fraulein Schneider: A landlady who rents rooms in a boarding house; alto. Comfortable with stage movement and light dance (waltz). Age range: 40s to 50-plus. German accent.
Herr Schultz: One of Fraulein Schneider’s roomers and the proprietor of a fruit shop; tenor or baritone. Comfortable with stage movement and light dance. Age range: 50-plus. German accent.
Fraulein Kost: Another of Fraulein Schneider’s roomers, a lady of the evening; alto/mezzo. Comfortable with stage movement. Age range: 20s to 50s. German accent.
Ernst Ludwig: A friendly and likeable German. Takes English lessons from Cliff and smuggles funds for the Nazi Party. Comfortable with stage movement and light dance (waltz). Any age. German accent.
Kit Kat Club Girls and Boys: Max, Bobby, Victor, Herman, Hans, Lulu, Rosie, Texas, Fritzie, Frenchie, and Helga. Strong dance abilities are appreciated for the roles.

Based on the stage play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood, “Cabaret” will be directed by Marlette Carter. It will be presented at the Alban Arts Center, 65 Olde Main Plaza in St. Albans May 31 and June 1-2 and 7-9.
