Upcycled chair displays capture attention ahead of Lemoyne’s Chain of Parks Art Festival
The dazzling display and competition leads right up to the festival weekend.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - An exciting new public art exhibit and competition is underway in Tallahassee as Lemoyne Arts gears up for its annual Chain of Parks Art Festival.
The free event draws in top talent from all over the nation and tens of thousands of people throughout the festival weekend.
Ahead of the festival, Lemoyne’s Find Your Chair exhibit features upcycled chair sculptures displayed throughout downtown Tallahassee.
As the capital city marks its 200th birthday, artists were encouraged to decorate their chairs with a bicentennial theme.
Festival manager Powell Kreis spoke with WCTV about the process, and the progress, as artists worked to bring their creations to life.
“Everybody just did a great job and clearly had a good time making them, so it’s been really fun to watch the progress and now see them all together in person,” Kreis said. “It’s just a really fun way to take what could’ve gone into a landfill but instead can now go into someone’s home as a beautiful piece of artwork.”
The sculptures will be displayed through April 19. After that, they will be taken to the festival for a silent auction to benefit Lemoyne Arts.
