Minor arrested after committing car thefts and crashing into vehicle in Vallejo

(KRON) – Two people were arrested after a minor committed multiple car thefts in a hotel parking lot, the Vallejo Police Department said.

Vallejo police officers responded to a vehicle burglary call for service at a hotel in the 1100 block of Admiral Callaghan Lane at approximately 1:30 a.m. on March 14. A hotel staff member reported that a man dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask was burglarizing multiple vehicles in their parking lot.

Stolen vehicle, firearm recovered after car theft in Vallejo

Responding officers noticed a man driving a Toyota Avalon leaving the parking lot without headlights. As the driver passed the Avalon, officers said they noticed the man was wearing all black and a ski mask.

Officers initiated a traffic stop. However, due to public safety concerns, the officers canceled the pursuit. The California Highway Patrol Air Unit began to follow the Avalon.

CHP Air witnessed the driver crash into an occupied Audi Q5 parked on the 1400 block of Corcoran Avenue, according to CHP. After the collision, the driver fled on foot. Officers later found the suspect hiding behind a small bush.

According to the police investigation, the driver was a minor who was on felony probation for grand theft.

The driver was arrested. The minor’s mother arrived at the scene and was informed that her son would be transported to a local hospital for medical clearance and then to the county juvenile detention center. Officers advised the suspect’s mother that the Avalon was being towed from the scene.

Officers searched the Avalon for the stolen property and were able to locate the victims at the hotel. Officers returned the stolen property to the victims, said police.

In a turn of events, officers conducted a welfare check on the man inside the Audi. Police said the man was found to have four warrants for his arrest with bail totaling $40,000. The man was arrested for his warrants and transported to the county jail.
