Olivia Munn Is 'Grateful' for Support After Breast Cancer Diagnosis: 'Meant a Lot to Me'

Olivia Munn is filled with gratitude after being flooded with messages about her battle breast cancer.

On Thursday,  the X-Men: Apocalypse actress, 43, posted a message on her Instagram Story thanking everyone for the support she’s received since announcing that she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

“I’m really grateful for all the love and support I’ve received about my diagnosis that I shared yesterday,” she wrote. “Reading your stories and comments has really meant a lot to me and I just wanted to express my gratitude for all of it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”

Munn revealed Wednesday in a candid Instagram post that she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy last year, just two months after testing negative for the BRCA gene in February 2023. 

“In the past ten months I have had four surgeries, so many days spent in bed I can't even count and have learned more about cancer, cancer treatment and hormones than I ever could have imagined," she wrote.

The actress admitted that she wouldn't have found her cancer if it weren’t for her “guardian angel” OB/GYN Dr. Thais Aliabadi, who’s known for working with stars like Rihanna and Khloé Kardashian.

She said Aliabadi decided to calculate her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score. “The fact that she did saved my life,” Munn said.

“Dr. Aliabadi looked at factors like my age, familial breast cancer history, and the fact that I had my first child after the age of 30. She discovered my lifetime risk was at 37%. Because of that score I was sent to get an MRI, which led to an ultrasound, which then led to a biopsy. The biopsy showed I had Luminal B cancer in both breasts. Luminal B is an aggressive, fast moving cancer.”

Munn said that 30 days after her biopsy, she had a double mastectomy, calling herself “lucky” because the cancer was caught earlier enough. She said she’s sharing her story to help women be more proactive about their health and understand their risk of breast cancer.

After sharing her diagnosis, The Newsroom actress received tons of support and well wishes from fans and fellow stars, including Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington, Taika Waititi, Jenna Dewan,  Leslie Mann, Jo Koy and more.
