Travelers by Trade return home for stop at United Theatre

    Avi Jacobs (submitted)

A multi-artist concert of Rhode Island-bred musical talent entertains March 30 in Westerly’s United Theatre.

Billed as “Travelers by Trade” — alluding to their national and international touring schedules — the Americana-flavored presentation will be headlined by eclectic folksinger Avi Jacobs, whose status has steadily gained ground over the past five years. Also performing will be the trio Haunt the House and singer-songwriters Andrew Victor, Allysen Callery and Tyler Seton.

While Jacobs, now based in Providence, is generally filed under the “folk” umbrella due to stark acoustic instrumentation and the confessional nature of his erudite and emotional material, there is a wide range of his influences in his work. Along with Dylan and Leonard Cohen, he cites artists ranging from Percy Sledge and Otis Redding to Nirvana, Paul Simon and Lauryn Hill as important to his development.

The show, which is standing room only, starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12.

The United Theatre is located at 5 Canal St. For more information contact unitedtheatre.org.
