Update: Richard Goode's death was determined to be accidental caused by acute mixed drug intoxication, according to information released by the Marion County Coroner's Office on April 24, 2024.

Original reporting: Indianapolis police and other law enforcement agencies are investigating the death of a detainee at Marion County’s Adult Detention Center over the weekend.

Richard Goode, 29, was found unresponsive about 3:20 p.m. Saturday during a headcount inside the facility, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, which oversees the facility.

Goode’s death is being investigated by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, the Forensic Services Agency and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit – which the agency says is standard procedure.

The jail opened in early 2022 and is located on the city's southeast side at the Community Justice Campus.
