CEDAR RAPIDS — One person has died after being removed from a burning house Tuesday by Cedar Rapids firefighters and taken to the hospital.
Frederick Slagenweit, 78, died Tuesday at the hospital. He was removed from his home in the 1200 block of N Street SW Tuesday morning, along with another man, who is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Wednesday release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 10:07 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a fire. Cedar Rapids Police Officers had removed one of the men from the home before firefighters arrived on scene. The other was found by firefighters who entered the building to search while extinguishing the fire.
Two police officers involved in the rescue were treated at a hospital and released Tuesday.
The cause of the fire still is under investigation.
