Baltimore City firefighters are on scene battling an active fire in Pigtown at the intersection of Bayard and Hamburg Street, according to the Baltimore City Fire Department.

The active fire is a two-alarm fire involving a large pile of scrap metal, said fire officials.

Units were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. to the intersection where they found heavy smoke conditions emitting from a metal warehouse, according to fire officials.

As fire units began to investigate the conditions of the fire, they identified a large pile of scrap metal burning that may have penetrated an adjoining warehouse, said fire officials.

Fire companies are engaged in exterior operations with hand lines and monitor pipes in operation, according to fire officials.

There have been no reports of injuries to civilians or firefighters, said fire officials.

Baltimore Office of Emergency Management is urging residents to close windows and doors due to heavy smoke conditions.

This is a developing story.
