Christian Hammer is hoping to upset the apple cart on Sunday night when he squares off against Dillian Whyte.

The Romanian puncher is no stranger to overcoming the odds against British fighters either.

In February 2017, he stopped fan favourite David Price in front of a packed-out London Olympia.

At the time, Price, a former Olympic bronze medallist, was rebounding from a pair of shock defeats at the hands of Tony Thompson.

Now, just over seven years on, the 36-year-old journeyman is eyeing another big British scalp when he faces Whyte on St. Patrick's Day at the TF Royal Hotel and Theatre in Castlebar, Ireland.

'The Bodysnatcher' has been sidelined since failing a pre-fight drugs test before his proposed rematch with Anthony Joshua last August.

When he boxed the latter in 2015, Hammer retired at the end of the eighth round after taking a beating from 'The Gypsy King'.

A similar script tends to play out when Hammer steps up against world-level opposition.

Since recording a career-best win over Price all those years ago, he hasn't done anything of note in the paid ranks.

His most recent outing, a rogue clash with Joe Joyce in 2022, ended early doors with Hammer failing to put up much in the way of resistance.

It seems unlikely he will be able to cause Whyte many problems when they duke it out this weekend.

But 'The Hammer' will certainly have a go.
