Thomas Neal McCoy

Thomas was born Dec. 23, 1951, in Durango. He grew up and attended school in Durango and was a graduate of the class of 1970. After school, he moved to Colorado Springs where he worked as a land surveyor for Dick Clark. On March 5, 1972 he married LaWanda Weatherly in Colorado Springs. In this union, two sons were born: Jeffrey Dean and Thomas John. In 1976, he moved to Leadville where he worked as a hard rock miner for Climax Molybdenum Mine. He later worked for the City of Leadville street department and at several mines before working in the gravel pit as a fueler oiler for L. G. Everist Gravel in Frisco. Thomas and LaWanda moved to Elk City, Oklahoma in 2021.

Thomas passed away on March 10, 2024 at his home.

Thomas enjoyed reading and photography. He liked being outdoors and fishing. Thomas felt secure in his afterlife by accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Thomas loved spending time with his family. His greatest accomplishments were his two sons, grandsons and granddaughters. He was so proud of their success. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Daisy McCoy and brothers Terry and Trey McCoy.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, LaWanda McCoy of Elk City, Oklahoma; two sons Jeffrey and Janet McCoy of Orlando, Florida and Thomas John and Juanita McCoy of Leadville; six grandchildren Matthew John, Nathanial John, Alexander, Kyndal, Emma Rose and Ruby Lucille; two sisters Hope (Dave) Scharich of Colorado Springs and Sharon (Howard) Hersh of Peoria, Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Services will be held at a later date in Elk City and at Turquoise Lake in Leadville.
