Rockzilla attacks Monday in Youngstown

Hard rock favorites Papa Roach, others return to Covelli

Rockzilla is proving to be a monster of a tour for JAC Live.

At midday Tuesday, about 50 single seats were available for the hard rock lineup of Papa Roach, Falling in Reverses, Hollywood Undead and Escape the Fate that’s coming to the Covelli Centre on Monday.

JAC Vice President Ken Bigley said he wasn’t surprised. Papa Roach has been a big draw in the Mahoning Valley for more than 20 years, back when JAC President Eric Ryan and Bigley were booking shows at The Cellar in Struthers instead of much larger venues around the country.

“That’s the style of music Eric and I and JAC cut its teeth and grew on, that early 2000s active rock scene,” Bigley said. “The tri-county area has always embraced it, and it hasn’t changed.”

It’s not just a Youngstown thing. JAC is promoting three shows on the 21-city tour, which started last week in Rochester, N.Y. The Johnstown, Pa., date essentially was sold out after the first day of ticket sales, Bigley said. Sales in Kalamazoo, Mich., have been a little slower than Youngstown, but it’s also approaching a sell-out.

“That tour has sold great across the Midwest,” he said. “It’s a good combination with Papa Roach and Falling in Reverse. Papa Roach is more nostalgic and Falling in Reverse is really current. Hollywood Undead and Escape the Fate carry a good fan base as well.”

Papa Roach has been an active / mainstream rock staple since the release of its triple-Platinum-selling “Infest” in 2000. That album included three songs that were hits on both alternative and mainstream rock stations — “Last Resort,” “Broken Home” and “Between Angels and Insects.”

Since then, the band has had more than 20 singles that cracked the top 5 on the mainstream rock chart, including such number one hits as “Lifeline,” “Face Everything and Rise,” “Help,” “Born for Greatness” and “Come Around.”

And the band isn’t resting on its laurels. Two singles from its most recent album, “Ego Trip,” also topped the mainstream rock chart, “Kill the Noise” and “No Apologies.”

An expanded digital edition of “Ego Trip” is set for release on March 17 that includes a version of “Cut the Line” with Beartooth, a Rockzilla Remix of “Swerve” with tourmates Hollywood Undead, two new versions of “Stand Up,” a demo version of “Spotlight” and an acoustic take on “Dying to Believe.”

The standard 14-track version will get a new vinyl release in traditional black as well as translucent purple, strawberry shortcake and yellow & black swirl.

Falling in Reverse, led by one-time Escape the Fate lead singer Ronnie Radke, has evolved into a streaming juggernaut, attracting nearly 50 million total streams a month with its genre-melding sound.

“Zombified,” the first single from its upcoming EP “Neon Zombie,” topped both the hard rock and mainstream rock radio charts. The follow-up single “Voices in My Head” repeated that success at hard rock and was top 5 on mainstream rock stations.

Falling in Reverse’s 2019 single, “Popular Monster,” has nearly a half billion total streams.
