Juilliard piano and chamber music faculty member Orli Shaham will perform from 8 - 10 p.m. March 25, at Auer Hall as guest pianist. She will be joined by Norman Krieger, chair of the piano department at the Jacobs School of Music, and the Pacifica Quartet, the faculty string quartet-in-residence at the Jacobs School of Music.

Shaham is a world-renowned pianist, having appeared in concerts across five continents. A concerto titled “Light Forming” was recently written for her in October 2022. Shaham has also created and hosted several radio shows, including NPR's “From the Top.” Since 2007, she has been the artistic director and guest performer for Pacific Symphony’s chamber music series in Costa Mesa, California.

Part of Shaham’s visit to IU includes judging the school’s Rachmaninoff second piano concerto competition from 2-8:30 p.m., March 26. All participants will play Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmonic Orchestra. The winner will perform at 8 p.m., April 17, in the Musical Arts Center.

Shaham has taught several Masterclasses on Mozart’s sonatas and Clara Schumann, a nineteenth century German pianist, at other universities. Students can attend her masterclass from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., March 27 in the Ford-Crawford Hall.

More information about Shaham can be found on her website. More information about the events being held can be found on the Jacobs  School of Music website. The events are free for all students.
