Lizzo has seemingly responded to Candace Owens accusing her of “gaslighting” critics who take issue with her public displays during live performances.

On Sunday (March 17), the Grammy Award winner took to social media to express the effect that her detractors have had on her emotional well-being. “Hey everyone, it’s come to my attention that some of you think I have thick skin,” Lizzo lip-synced words from a popular audio reel in a recent Instagram post.

“I don’t. I never have, I never will. Everything you say deeply, deeply hurts me, affects me, keeps me up at night; you have to be nice to me. That’s the deal moving forward, okay?” In the post’s caption, Lizzo lamented the constant attacks on her character while urging her critics to leave her be.

“I literally just be minding my business please keep my name out ya mouf unless it’s something positive or real.. pls n thank u,” the Michigan native wrote. Lizzo’s Instagram post came in the wake of Candace Owens’ recent appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast, during which she accused the hitmaker of being a “gaslighter.”

“I don’t like the game that people play where they do something that is so obviously outrageous,” the political pundit said during the episode. “Like, you know, Lizzo in a thong shaking your a** cheeks. You know what that was.” Owens continued to decry Lizzo’s raunchy displays, deeming them as “disgusting” and “perverted.” “Is there no space that’s safe?” the 34-year-old asked, rhetorically.

“And then she’s like, ‘if you don’t like it, that’s your problem.’ Like no, you are being problematic. And now you’re playing the game where you do something outrageous, and then, when we outrage, you pretend that we’re the crazy ones. I’m not dealing with that. Stop gaslighting me, okay?”

Lizzo has come under fire amid various allegations, most notably a lawsuit accusing her of sexual harassment and mistreatment of employees in the workplace. Litigation in that case is on hold amid an appeal filed by the music star’s legal representatives.
