Driver in deadly Bedford Co. crash pleads guilty to summary offenses, ordered to pay fine

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The man charged for his role in a deadly Bedford County crash that claimed the life of a teenager has reportedly pleaded guilty to multiple summary offenses in the case and has been ordered to pay an $850 fine.

Last March, police charged Jeffrey Miles Jr., of State College, following an investigation into a fatal, head-on collision near the intersection of Route 220 and Cumberland Road in Bedford Township in February of 2022.

Investigators say Miles Jr. had reportedly attempted to pass a slower-moving vehicle when he collided with a 2006 Pontiac G6.

Police say the driver of the Pontiac, a 17-year-old girl, was killed on impact and her passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Miles Jr. was initially charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault by vehicle, reckless endangerment and numerous other traffic violations.

According to the latest online court records, he has since pleaded guilty to three summary violations, including two careless driving offenses, and was ordered to pay a fine of $850.

6 News has reached out to the Bedford County DA's office for comment on the plea and sentencing of Jeffrey Miles Jr. but we have not yet heard back.
