In a news release sent to the Herald Tuesday, Texas Department of Public Safety said officers responded to a fatal one-vehicle crash located on Farm-to-Market Road 580 and County Road 3040 in Lampasas County on Sunday morning.
A Dodge passenger car, operated by 21-year-old Paulina Carbajal Angel of Lampasas, was traveling northbound on CR 3040 at a high rate of speed, according to DPS.
According to the lead trooper investigating the crash, Angel failed to stop at the T-intersection and the car catapulted over the roadway, struck a fence line, and then collided with a tree. Angel was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. Angel was pronounced deceased on scene by Justice of the Peace Misty Wakeman.
“Texas DPS would like to remind everyone on the roadways to always buckle up. Texas law requires all occupants in a vehicle to be restrained,” the release said. “Failing to wear a seatbelt greatly increases the probability of being seriously injured when involved in a traffic crash.”
The crash investigation is still ongoing.
