Fatal Crash
TERRELL, Texas — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on Interstate 20 in Terrell early Sunday morning, according to local authorities. The Terrell Police Department received multiple calls about a man standing in the roadway before he was hit.

The incident occurred around 12:41 a.m. on March 17, 2024, when Terrell police received two calls from westbound motorists on Interstate 20 about a person in the roadway. As officers were dispatched to locate the individual, a third caller reported hitting a person on the road. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Otavius Demond Rose, of Terrell, Texas, was reportedly not breathing when initial reports came in.

Upon arrival, the responding units found Rose with apparent major injuries from the collision. The Terrell Fire Department and Careflite E.M.S. were dispatched to the scene, but Rose was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Rhitt Jackson. His body was transported by Max Slayton Funeral Home to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, a routine procedure in such investigations.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was identified as 42-year-old Jarod Hazlett, of Livingston, Texas. He was driving a 2019 Ram 2500 truck at the time of the incident.
