Woman hit by car on Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach, police say

Lynnhaven Parkway is closed between Primrose Lane to Holland Road and detours are in place.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a car on Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach on Wednesday morning, according to police.

The Virginia Beach Police Department said the crash happened at the intersection with Primrose Lane. Police responded to the crash around 6:45 a.m. Medics transported the victim, a 25-year-old woman, to a hospital for treatment while the vehicle driver stayed at the scene of the crash.

A neighbor said he heard the crash as he was heading to work.

"As I pulled off around 6:35. I heard the tires screech and big boom," said the neighbor.

He said he told his wife to call 911 while he ran over to help the woman.

"She tried to move around, and I was like, baby girl, you got to stay still," said the neighbor.

Several neighborhoods surround the section of Lynnhaven Parkway where the accident occurred. The neighbor said drivers are always speeding along the 45-mile-per-hour road. He said he believes something needs to happen to make the road safer.

“I don’t know if they could do something, [like] put a light, maybe put speed cameras or something here, just to avoid these situations."

Lynnhaven Parkway was closed from Primrose Lane to Holland Road for a little more than three hours. The crash is still under investigation.
