Bringing back the music

There is a festival for everyone this summer

Summer music festivals are back.

Sure, there are a few Ohio festivals that existed pre-COVID-19 and still haven’t returned, including Sonic Temple in Columbus, Bunbury in Cincinnati and Bellwether near Wilmington.

But others have been created. Nelsonville in southeast Ohio now has rival events — the long-running Nelsonville Music Festival, which moves to a new location and later in the summer, and the Black Diamond Music & Art Festival, which will be staged on the grounds of Hocking College (the former NMF site).

Columbus has two large music festivals on the same weekend with WonderBus and the Breakaway Festival both happening Aug. 26 to 28.

Country fans can party to their favorite bands in the hills of southern Ohio or on a Lake Erie island. There are options if you’re a metalhead or one of the contemporary Christian faithful.

The events are a great way to hear a lot of music in one place and maybe discover a new favorite band or artist along the way.

While the list starts with Maple House Music + Arts Festival, a new event outside of Pittsburgh, the emphasis is on Ohio festivals, multi-day events or at least day-long concerts featuring 10 or more acts, most of which are nationally touring performers.
