It’s really a delight to be part of the BBC One Saturday night experience. I once again look forward to taking the credit if it goes well and blaming the format if it doesn’t.”

The family favourite Saturday night quiz show, The Weakest Link, hosted by Romesh Ranganathan for the fourth time, will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.

Made by BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, another star studded line up of celebrity contestants will battle it out in one of the world’s most iconic quizzes, where the celebrities work as a team to build a cash prize for charity whilst trying to avoid the walk of shame and being voted ‘The Weakest Link’ by their fellow contestants. Only one player will be crowned The Strongest Link and secure the prize for charity.

The new series will feature a number of special themed episodes including Strictly Come Dancing, comedians, Gladiators, and duos, with more to be announced.

Romesh says: “It’s really a delight to be part of the BBC One Saturday night experience. I once again look forward to taking the credit if it goes well and blaming the format if it doesn’t.”

Pete Ogden, Executive Producer BBC Studios Entertainment Productions says: “We’re so excited to be back with another series of The Weakest Link to entertain the nation with on a Saturday night. With the amazing Romesh back at the helm, we know there will be lots of laughs. We have some fantastic special episodes lined up for this series and can’t wait to put our stellar line up of celebrity contestants to the test, for excellent causes.”

The new series begins filming in Glasgow this Spring, with The Weakest Link returning to BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year. Details of the celebrity contestants will be confirmed in due course.

The Weakest Link is currently averaging 3.5M across the series (stable on last series), peaking at 4.4M for the EastEnders special (28-Days data).

The Weakest Link (14 x 60) is a BBC Studios Entertainment production for BBC One and BBC iPlayer and was commissioned by Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC. The Executive Producers for BBC Studios are Pete Ogden and Gareth Edwards and the Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Neil McCallum.
