Arts on the Square will present a Lenten concert with a choir, organ and chamber orchestra on Palm Sunday.
“A Lenten Journey from Darkness to Light” features a 40-voice choir and will be performed at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at Market Square Presbyterian Church, 20 S. Second St., Harrisburg.
Arts on the Square said the program “are 19th-century French romantic composer Théodore Dubois’ famous ‘The Seven Last Words of Christ,’ musical settings of seven short phrases uttered by Jesus on the cross. The best-known work of Dubois, it was written in 1867.”
Also included is “‘Illuminare,’ a stunning work by contemporary American composer Elaine Hagenberg, with five movements for choir and chamber orchestra. Using lesser-known sacred Latin, Greek, and English texts, the piece takes listeners through a season of beauty and goodness that has been disrupted by darkness and confusion.”
Tyler Canonico, minister of music and organist at Market Square Church, will conduct.
An offering will be received. Free parking is available in the adjacent and connected Market Square Garage.
