Last night, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real headlined San Francisco’s The Fillmore. Nelson’s brother Micah, who performs as Particle Kid, augmented the group a few times during the night, including on his own “Everything Is Bullshit.” The group’s set also nodded to a diverse range of influences, including takes on David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” and family patriarch Willie Nelson’s “Bloody Mary Morning.”

Promise of the Real also had some surprises in store for their encore. After covering Pink Floyd’s “Echoes,” the ensemble brought out Bob Weir for the Grateful Dead’s “West L.A. Fadeaway.” Weir then remained onstage as Promise of the Real launched into the Dead-adopted Crickets classic, “Not Fade Away.” Micah, who has joined Promise of the Real when they back Neil Young, augmented the musicians during Weir’s appearance as well.

Nelson and Weir are close friends who have shared the stage numerous times during the years, especially, when Weir was broadcasting from his TRI Studios. Promise of the Real will perform at San Luis Obispo, CA’s Fremont Theater tomorrow.
