When does summer 2024 start? Here’s what the Farmer’s Almanac says about Florida’s summer

Spring is officially here, so it's time to start looking toward the summer.

Which, let's face it, is pretty much the same thing in Florida. The state saw cooler weather on the first day of spring this year but we're coming off the hottest year on record with every indication 2024 will break that again.

Here are the early forecasts for summer 2024.

When does summer start in 2024?

The first day of summer officially begins in the Northern Hemisphere on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 4:51 p.m. That's the day of the summer solstice, the longest day of the year.

That's the earliest start for summer in 128 years, despite this being a leap year.

AccuWeather is predicting a "very active" hurricane season this year. Earlier this month, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts was predicting a "very busy" Atlantic hurricane season through September with about 17 named storms and nine hurricanes, according to a tweet from Philip Klotzbach, meteorologist at Colorado State University specializing in Atlantic basin seasonal hurricane forecasts.

The 2024 hurricane season officially begins on June 1 but storms may form before then.
