Going farther than any other area wrestler this past season, Northridge’s Travis Henke has been named The Goshen News’ 2023-24 Athlete of the Winter.

The junior rode through each level of the wrestling postseason, ending his run in the 215-weight class placing sixth at this year’s State Finals in Evansville.

Henke finished the year 42-3 and earned 26% of the vote in the fan poll.

Runner-up: Levi Moser

Finishing second in the voting with 23% of the fan vote was Goshen boys swimmer Levi Moser.

Moser, in his senior season, worked to break three school records and also became the first RedHawk boys swimmer since 1998 to place at the State Finals, doing so twice.

Also nominated: Julie Mishler

Wawasee girls swimmer Julie Mishler finished third in the voting, receiving 19% of the vote.

Mishler matched preseason expectations by showing off again in the regular season and riding a strong year to the State Finals. Placing second in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke in Indianapolis, the junior continued her successful career by winning a couple more medals.

Also nominated: Zoe Willems

Zoe Willems earned 19% of the vote.

Bethany Christian girls basketball senior guard was named TGN’s girls basketball Player of the Year for her season which saw her average 20.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 4.8 steals, helping guide the Bruins to another sectional title before bowing out in the regional round.

Furthermore, Willems finished atop the Bethany girls basketball program records in points (1,659), rebounds (885) and steals (355). She also finished second in assists (310).

Also nominated: Tyson Chupp

Bethany boys basketball senior Tyson Chupp also received a nomination in this week’s poll.

Chupp earned TGN’s boys basketball Player of the Year honor, averaging 18.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.8 steals during his senior season. Chupp scored a program high 1,487 points and also finished first in steals (184) during his career.
