Greenville man arrested for allegedly holding girlfriend hostage in homeFree Access

EUREKA TOWNSHIP – A Greenville man was arrested for unlawful imprisonment for allegedly holding his girlfriend hostage.

Montcalm County sheriff’s deputies were sent to check the well-being of a 20-year-old Greenville woman around noon on Monday in the 1000 block of W. Harlow Road in Eureka Township. Friends and family of the woman were reporting that she was messaging them via a video gaming system that she needed help and that her boyfriend wouldn’t let her leave.

Deputies arrived at the home and commands to come to the door were ignored. Being concerned for the health and safety of the woman, forced entry was made into the home. The woman, along with her boyfriend, were found inside.

Once separated, the woman described how she had expressed her wishes to leave for over a week to her boyfriend, but he refused to allow her to go. When she attempted to leave, she was not allowed to do so. The woman’s cell phone was damaged and non-functioning so she was not able to call for help forcing her to use a video gaming system for communication.

The boyfriend Christian P. Clevenger, 22 of Greenville, was arrested at the scene. He has been arraigned on a charge of unlawful imprisonment. He remains in the Montcalm County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The Greenville woman was not injured.
