Wrong-way driver killed, 3 others injured in crash on Interstate 74

A driver is dead and three others are injured following a crash that occurred on Interstate 74 west near the Montana Avenue exit Saturday, according to Cincinnati police.

Officers said they were called to the scene in the area of Northside and South Cumminsville at around 11:40 p.m. They discovered that a 22-year-old man driving a 2023 Nissan Altima eastbound in the westbound lane on I-74 was hit by a 2020 Chevy Traverse traveling west.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and his identify has not yet been released.

The driver of the Chevy and a second occupant were taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The third occupant was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. All three are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

All occupants of the Chevy Traverse were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt.

Impairment and excessive speed are being investigated as contributing factors of the crash.
