Eric Carmen, a prolific solo artist and a former member of The Raspberries, has died. He was 74.

His wife, Amy Carmen, shared the sad news "with tremendous sadness" via a statement uploaded to the musician's website, noting that "All by Myself" and "Hungry Eyes" singer "passed away in his sleep over the weekend." It's unclear exactly when or where the singer passed, and a cause of death was not provided.

Amy described her husband as "sweet, loving and talented," and shared with fans that it "brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy."

She also requested that fans "respect the family’s privacy as [they] mourn [their] enormous loss," adding a lyric from the chorus of "Love Is All That Matters" from his 1977 album, Boats Against the Current: "Love Is All That Matters...Faithful and Forever."

Eric launched his career as a member of the Cleveland-based band The Raspberries, which released their self-titled debut album in 1972. Their second album, Fresh, came the same year, but the band was done by 1975.

He went solo as a soft rocker, with his first single, "All by Myself," reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He also wrote and sang "Hungry Eyes," of Dirty Dancing fame. In 1989, he started playing occasionally with Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band, touring with them in 2000 and continuing to guest with them through 2019.

He is survived by his wife of eight years and children, Kathryn and Clayton, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Susan Brown.
