Lyte Funkie Ones may not have reached the same level of fame as their fellow boy bands like 'NSYNC (who recently reunited at MTV's VMAs) and Backstreet Boys, but there was a time when their hit song Summer Girls was on every teenager's lips.

When LFO, made up of Brad Fischetti, Rich Cronin and Devin Lima, filmed their sunny video for Summer Girls on the pier and beach of New York's Coney Island amusement park in 1999, they seemed to have it all, with their good looks and fit bodies.

But they had no idea about the unthinkable nightmare that lay ahead, which would end LFO forever. Sadly, all three were wiped out by tragedy – yet some fans are only just realising the band are no more.

Over on the Instagram account 2000spophits, a tribute was paid to the band featuring photos of the now-passed members and followers were quick to comment.

"3 Are dead??????" said one, while another posted: "Omg three of them are dead?!"

A third added: "Wow! This is actually a very tragic story," and a fourth simply said: "So creepy."

The band was formed in 1995, when Rich and Brad met original member Brian 'Brizz' Gillis in New Bedford, Massachusetts, but LFO initially found it difficult to make it.

LFO became famous when Brizz left in 1999 and Devin joined. Their song "Summer Girls" got to No 1 in America and No 16 in the UK on the Official Singles Chart.

The song was packed full of 80s and 90s references, including Cherry Coke, actors Macaulay Culkin, Kevin Bacon and Michael J Fox, New Kids On The Block and, of course, Abercrombie & Fitch.

It seemed as though LFO's star was rising – in the year 2000 they won the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Favourite Group of the Year and performed more than 230 concerts, including supporting a young Britney Spears on tour. In 2001 they even released their own range of dolls.

But their next album didn't sell well, and boy bands weren't so cool anymore, so they stopped making music together in 2002.

Rich, one of the singers, initially got sick with leukaemia but got better after treatment. Rich once said to a magazine, "I am truly thankful for the success I had," and "And if it happens again, that'd be really nice. I'm just that same guy writing pop songs to make people happy. And I still only like girls in Abercrombie and Fitch."

By 2009, LFO had come back together and they hit the road with their music. But it wasn't all good news as sadly Rich became unwell again, although he was supported by his band mates, much like UK boy band The Wanted later helped cancer-stricken group member Tom Parker.

In 2010, LFO's Brad spoke up about how close they'd got to Rich during this tough time: "He was so happy," he said, "We really became soulmates. Devin and I both realised how much we loved him, despite the differences we had in the past."

But though Rich fought hard against his sickness, he passed away in Boston in September 2010 when he was only 36 years old. Seven years after that, in July 2017, Brad and Devin popped out a brand new LFO song – their first in 15 years!

They promised that they would keep on going and never forget Rich.

Sadly, only three months later, more bad news came. This time it was Devin who was dealt a blow. He found out he had a very rare type of cancer. He also had to have an operation on his stomach to take out a tumour the size of a football and also one of his kidneys.

But before he went into hospital, Devin said he didn't feel like it was a type of cancer and just wanted it out of his body.

Even though his operation seemed to go well, a year afterwards, Devin died from his sickness at 41 years old leaving behind his girlfriend and six kids. In 2019, Brad - the last member from the famous LFO trio - went on a tour with boy band O-Town in memory of his lost mates, Rich and Devin.

Very shockingly, in March 2023, original LFO member Brizz also died. His family didn't say what caused it and he was only 48.
