Former Ultravox frontman Midge Ure told how live music was his "first love" as he delighted his fans with his news.

Tickets for the winter tour, spanning November and December at locations across the UK, will be on-sale this week.

Midge gushed in a statement: "I performed live long before I was ever allowed anywhere near a recording studio and as much as I love spending time writing and recording, live music remains my first love.

"This ‘Catalogue’ tour will allow me to not only play a wide selection of hits from my past but perform some of the most requested favourites.

RAED MORE EIGHTIES LEGEND

"Revisiting these moments from my musical life is something I am really looking forward to sharing."

The record producer's real name is James, but used Midge as it is a phonetic reversal of Jim, a pet name of his given moniker.

He found fame in a host of bands aside from Ultravox and their epic hit Vienna, including Rich Kids, Slik and Thin Lizzy.

Back in 1984 he co-wrote Band Aid hit Do They Know It's Christmas and proceeded to team up with Bob Geldof to organise Live Aid Band Aid and Live 8.

Yet he kick-started his solo career with a cover of 1968 Tom Rush hit, No Regrets.

After clocking up an array of hits, he turned his attention to reality TV with a spot on Celebrity Masterchef in 2007.

Off-screen, the dad of four is a recovering alcoholic and spoken openly about his booze battles in his 2004 autobiography, If I Was.

He previously told The Big Issue of the impact of drink on his life and said: "You lie and you cheat and you deny, and all of those things.

"And I really didn’t like who I had become. I was a complete d**k."

He added: "Drinking went hand in hand with the life. It’s an insidious drug, and you just become accustomed to it.

"You’d do your soundcheck, then you’d set up a drink before you went on, and then you’d have more drinks afterwards.

"And you’d do the same again the next day and keep doing it.

"But then you start crossing the line you said you would never ever cross.

"Drinking during the day, drinking on your own. And before you realise it, you can’t stop it."
