A woman has died and two people have suffered life-threatening injuries following a serious collision on the M4 on Saturday morning (March 9).

Emergency services including an air ambulance were called to the scene at approximately 11:50 am following a report that a Volvo S40 had left the carriageway and collided with a tree.

The crash occurred on the M4 westbound, near Swindon between junctions 15 and 16. Four people were reported as injured at the time. Wiltshire Police have now confirmed that the front seat passenger, a woman in her 60s from Oxford, died at the scene.

The male driver and a female passenger aged in her 20s have both been taken to Southmead Hospital in a life-threatening condition, whilst another male passenger in his 30s sustained an arm injury.

It has been reported that Specialist trained officers are supporting the next of kin of those involved. Wiltshire Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who may have dash cam recording of the incident to come forward.
