10 Greatest Rock Music Guitar Solos Of The 2000s

7. Welcome Home - Coheed And Cambria

Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness.

That is the name of prog metal band Coheed and Cambria’s third studio album, which released in 2005. If you were unsure of what sort of people they are, hopefully that’s made things clear.

Almost all of the band’s work is based on a high-concept space opera named The Armory Wars, created by lead singer Claudio Sanchez. Good Apollo etc. etc. is no exception, meaning that its most famous song, Welcome Home, fits into a much larger canon.

Thankfully, you don’t need to understand all that extra stuff to appreciate how insanely good the guitar solo is.

It stretches on for over a minute, taking various shapes as it goes. Soaring and epic to start with, it becomes faster and more screeching as it goes on, its unstructured nature fitting nicely over the more regimented nature of the accompanying riff.

There’s a reason Welcome Home is still a firm favourite among Coheed and Cambria fans, even after all this time. If you can get past the title of the album, it’s well worth a listen.
