Stock Market News: Dow, S&P 500 Snap Losing Streaks

Crude oil futures lose ground but settle above the day's lows after a build in U.S. crude stocks comes in smaller than an industry estimate.

The EIA's report of a 3.2 million barrel increase in crude inventories was well below the 9.3 million barrel build reported Tuesday by the API, and crude "rallied from relatively deep red," Mizuho's Robert Yawger says in a report.

The market largely ignored the unexpected build in gasoline stocks in favor of the more benign crude number, he adds.
