SIOUX CITY — A Sioux City man who pleaded guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl has been placed on probation.
Xaythavone Keoviseth, 24, pleaded guilty in February in Woodbury County District Court to one count of third-degree sexual abuse.
On Monday, District Judge Robert Tiefenthaler sentenced him in accordance with terms of a plea agreement to a suspended 10-year prison sentence and three years probation. Keoviseth will be required to register with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry for life and he also was given a lifetime special sentence in which he will be under court supervision as if on parole. Violations of the special sentence could result in prison sentences.
A second count of third-degree sexual abuse was dismissed as part of his plea agreement.
Keoviseth met the then-14-year-old on the Snapchat social media application on Dec. 20, 2021, and the girl invited him to her Sioux City home to watch a movie. Keoviseth, who was 21 at the time, forced himself on the girl and slapped her in the face before raping her. The girl was able to kick him away and retrieve a weapon, and Keoviseth left the house.

Prosecutors also dismissed a charge of indecent contact with a child, a charge stemming from a March 1, 2022, incident in which Keoviseth was accused of inappropriately touching an 11-year-old girl.
